Manchester City have been unable to agree a deal with Paris Saint-Germain for Nigeria midfielder Jennifer Echegini, Footynaija reports.
According to BBC, City made several offers for the 25-year-old, but PSG rejected them. The French club see Echegini as an important part of their team and are not keen to let her leave.
The move would have given City another option in midfield and attack. Their interest became more pressing after Vivianne Miedema suffered a knee injury and was ruled out of the start of the season.
Echegini has made a rapid rise since leaving England for the United States in 2019. She joined Florida State University and became one of the leading players in college football.
She helped Florida State win the 2023 NCAA championship and collected the ACC Player of the Year award and Hermann Trophy.
Her first European club was Juventus, where she scored 10 goals in 16 appearances after joining in January 2024. PSG signed her six months later.
Echegini has also become an important player for the Super Falcons. She was part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2023 Women’s World Cup and scored the winning goal against Morocco in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final. That goal secured Nigeria’s 10th continental title.
With the Women’s Super League transfer deadline approaching on Thursday, City have limited time to revive the deal.
