Sevilla sporting director Jose Ignacio Navarro has explained why Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke missed the club’s recent pre-season trips amid continued uncertainty over his future, Footynaija.com reports.
Ejuke is currently linked with a move away from the Spanish club this summer, with Sevilla reportedly open to selling the Nigerian as they look to rejig their squad and avoid losing him for nothing when his contract situation becomes more pressing.
The 28-year-old has been training with the squad during pre-season but was notably absent when Sevilla travelled to the Netherlands and Germany.

His omission raised questions over whether the winger had been frozen out as the club looked to facilitate his departure and Navarro has now provided an explanation for the decision.
Speaking to reporters ahead of Sevilla’s La Liga opener against Rayo Vallecano, the sporting director said the club considered it best for Ejuke to remain behind because of his unresolved situation.
What Navarro said about Chidera Ejuke
“Regarding the first question, about Chidera Ejuke, a squad was called up for the trip to the Netherlands because there were two matches and then one in Germany,” Navarro said in a recent interview.
“It was understood that, given the ongoing issues, it was best for everyone involved that Chidera Ejuke not participate in that trip.”
Ejuke’s absence from a significant part of Sevilla’s pre-season has also cast doubt over his involvement in Friday’s La Liga opener against Rayo Vallecano.
The Nigerian winger still has a contract with Sevilla, but the club are understood to be considering offers for him as they continue efforts to balance their squad financially.
There is interest in Ejuke from clubs outside Spain, with his future expected to become clearer as the summer transfer window approaches its final weeks.
For now, Navarro’s comments suggest that the situation remains unresolved, leaving the Super Eagles star’s next step at Sevilla one of the club’s outstanding transfer issues.
