Cubana Chief Priest has signalled an entry into Nigerian club football, revealing he is in the process of acquiring a stake in an NPFL side as part of a personal project to support homegrown talent, Footynaija.com reports.
The Imo State-born entertainment mogul, real name Pascal Chibuike Okechukwu, built his fortune through nightclubs, hospitality and brand endorsements after leaving the Cubana Group in 2020 to start his own chain of venues, including Club Xhrine in Owerri and Asaba and De Angels in Lekki.
Football has not previously featured in that portfolio, which makes his latest announcement a notable departure for the businessman.
In a statement shared on his Instagram page and confirmed by photojournalist Pooja, Chief Priest explained the motivation behind the move and did not hold back on ambition.

“I’m at the verge of buying into a football club in our Nigeria league. I’m doing this to support football talents and also uphold the glory of Nigerian football league. I promise you we will be winning the league cuz we never loose,” he wrote.
He framed the investment as something bigger than a business venture, tying it to legacy and opportunity for young players rather than just commercial returns.
“Yes we are gonna make money but we will make more memories and create amazing opportunities for the younger generation and above all leave a legacy. Wait for it,” he added.
Chief Priest would not be the first Nigerian celebrity figure to move into NPFL ownership or club administration in recent years, with prominent business and entertainment names increasingly drawn to the league as its commercial profile grows alongside the federation’s broader push to attract private investment into Nigerian football.
Former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa recently handled an administrative role at Kano Pillars as part of similar efforts to reposition NPFL clubs ahead of a new season. This is part of a wider pattern of recognisable names stepping into the domestic game.
