Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has expressed delight after ending a personally impressive campaign by winning silverware with Trabzonspor on Friday, Footynaija.com reports.
Onuachu was the star turn for Trabzonspor at the Corendon Airlines Park, with the towering Nigerian striker netting twice to secure a narrow 2-1 win over Konyaspor and deliver the club’s first Turkish Cup triumph in six years.
Onuachu’s 18th minute opener came in the form of a sublime right-footed volley after some brilliant work off the flanks from Wagner Pina. While his 79th minute winner was a well struck penalty that gave Konyaspor’s goalkeeper no chance.
Speaking after the victory, the former Southampton striker was glad to end a long and tiring campaign with something to show for the team’s efforts this season.

“It’s been a long season, I’m very happy to end it with a cup. We fought so hard, and I think we deserved to win the cup. Right now, I’m just very tired,” Paul Onuachu said in an interview with ATV.
“Last time I was here on loan, we were close to winning the cup but we lost it. However this time, the boys knew what was at stake, knew what the fans and the city of Trabzon wanted and played like it on the pitch.
“All the goals I scored gave Trabzonspor a lot of points and it was very important for the position we ended up in. My teammates helped me and contributed a lot as well.”

Onuachu’s double in the final means he signed off for the season with 24 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions, his best single season output since netting 35 goals for Genk in the 2020/2021 season.
The 31-year-old striker will now be looking forward to linking up with the Super Eagles ahead of crucial international friendly fixtures against Poland and Portugal next month.
