Manager Diego Simeone has pointed out Ademola Lookman’s impact after Atlético Madrid battled to a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final, Footynaija reports.
At the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, the visitors edged ahead before the interval when Viktor Gyökeres converted from the penalty spot. Atlético responded in similar fashion, with Julián Álvarez levelling after VAR spotted a handball.
Lookman did not register a goal or assist, but his performance still stood out. The Nigeria international completed the full match and impressed with his efficiency in possession, completing 95% of his passes in the attacking half.

The former Everton man also created a key chance and tested the Arsenal defence with four attempts, two of which were on target. On another night, he might have found the net, having missed two clear openings.
Beyond his attacking work, Lookman’s all-round contribution caught the eye. He tracked back consistently, making five defensive interventions that included tackles, interceptions and a crucial block. He also won the majority of his duels and made important recoveries to help his side maintain shape.
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has confirmed that Ademola Lookman is yet to receive medical clearance ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash against Arsenal, with the Super Eagles star still managing a muscle injury picked up during the Copa del Rey final.

Simeone, speaking after the game, made clear what pleased him most. “I loved Lookman’s game; we’re getting an important player to understand that his defensive work helps us,” he said.
Despite the display, Lookman’s wait for a decisive contribution against Arsenal continues, with no goals or assists in six meetings. Simeone, however, acknowledged the scale of the challenge, pointing to Arsenal’s depth and strong European record.
The tie now shifts to the Emirates Stadium, where both sides will look to seize control of a finely balanced contest.
