Super Eagles defender Emmanuel Fernandez has expressed delight after capping off an incredibly impressive debut campaign at Glasgow Rangers with a spot in the Scottish Premiership Team of the Year, Footynaija.com reports.
Fernandez, who was on the books of English League One outfit Peterborough as recently as last season, has taken the Scottish top flight football by storm since arriving at Ibrox in a deal worth 3.5 million Euros last summer.
Although he initially struggled to break into the first team after his arrival, the Nigeria international has now become a regular presence at the heart of defense for Danny Rohl’s side, with 28 appearances and six goals to his name.
In his reaction, Fernandez, who admitted that the recognition came as a bit of a surprise, expressed gratitude to his teammates as well as other players in the league for voting for him.

“It was a bit of a shock to be in the Team of the Year as I started playing a bit later in the season,” the center-back said in quotes revealed by Rangers’ official website.
“To be named in it, I am so grateful to my teammates and the staff, as well as the other players in the league for voting for me.
“I didn’t expect it but to do it in my first season here, to get that recognition is a moment I won’t forget.”
Alongside Fernandez, other players in the SPFL Team of the Year include Calum Ward (Motherwell), Paul McGinn (Motherwell), Craig Halkett (Hearts), Harry Milne (Hearts), Benjamin Nygren (Celtic), Elliot Watt (Motherwell), Elijah Just (Motherwell), Tawanda Maswanhise (Motherwell), Lawrence Shankland (Hearts), Claudio Braga (Hearts).
