Nigeria have named a strong and balanced starting line-up for Friday’s international friendly against Iran in Antalya, Footynaija reports.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is using the game to test a mix of experience and fresh options ahead of future competitions.

In goal, Maduka Okoye returns to the starting side, earning his first appearance since last year’s 1-1 draw with Russia. The Udinese goalkeeper is preferred to Francis Uzoho, who begins on the bench.

Nigeria’s back four shows some continuity, with Bright Osayi-Samuel, Semi Ajayi and Bruno Onyemaechi all keeping their places. They are joined by Igoh Ogbu, who comes into the side to replace the injured Calvin Bassey.

In midfield, Chelle relies on the trusted pairing of Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi. Both players were key figures during Nigeria’s recent Africa Cup of Nations campaign and will again be expected to control the tempo and provide stability.

Out wide, Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze offer pace and creativity, while the attack is led by Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams. The duo will be tasked with improving Nigeria’s recent attacking output after a dip in goals towards the end of the AFCON.

Key absentees include Victor Osimhen, whose injury has opened the door for Adams, and Bassey in defence.

The bench still provides Chelle with several options. Paul Onuachu offers a physical presence in attack, while Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Chidera Ejuke and Frank Onyeka add depth in midfield and wide areas. There could also be debuts for Philip Otele, Yira Sor and Emmanuel Fernandez.

With World Cup qualification no longer in sight, Nigeria are using matches like this to rebuild and refine their squad.
