Tanzanian Premier League side Singida Black Stars have cleared Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie of any wrong-doing in the aftermath of internal investigations into recent allegations of a match-fixing scandal, Footynaija.com reports.
Recall that Black Stars announced a three month suspension for Obasogie last month, after a couple of questionable goalkeeping performances between the sticks in games against Flambeau de Centre and Namungo FC in both the CAF Confederations Cup and Tanzanian Premier League respectively.
At the time of the allegations, Obasogie strongly denied claims of any intentional sporting misconduct, insisting that the errors in both games were merely genuine mistakes and vowing to clear his name.

And now Black Stars have now reinstated the Nigeria international after their probe into the incidents found no evidence of match-fixing or gambling. Part of the club’s statement reads;
“The incidents that raised the concerns have been determined to be technical errors within the game, and the initial suspension has been reversed.
“Amas Obasogie has apologised for the circumstances that gave rise to such interpretations and has promised to work on the shortcomings that have arisen to improve his level and restore the trust of fans and stakeholders.
“In light of this, the Club has decided to reverse the previous decision to suspend the player for three months, and the player has been allowed to continue his duties with the team.”

Even while under scrutiny amid the allegations, Obasogie pledged his loyalty to Singida Black Stars and now, he’ll be relieved to be able to put that tense episode behind him and focus on restoring his reputation within the club.
