Head of Professional Football at SV Werder Bremen, Peter Niemeyer, has provided an update on the current situation of injured Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface, Footynaija.com reports.
Recall that Boniface joined Werder Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen during the 2025 summer transfer window after being deemed surplus to requirements at the Bay Arena following the departure of Xabi Alonso for Real Madrid.
But the Super Eagles striker never really got going at the Weserstadion as lack of fitness and injury setbacks combined to hamper his integration into the Werder Bremen set-up.

Boniface managed just two starts in 11 Bundesliga outings for Bremen. Despite occasionally showing flashes of his brilliance, he failed to score in any of those games before suffering a knee injury in December. The 25-year-old striker had to undergo surgery earlier this year and is yet to return to action.
Updating fans about the situation of the Nigerian striker, Niemeyer revealed that Boniface is currently undergoing a smooth rehabilitation process at his parent club Bayer Leverkusen but may be unable to regain full fitness before the end of the season.
“He’s completing his rehab in Leverkusen, and we’re happy about every bit of progress. But it’s still impossible to predict how quickly he’ll be fully fit again,” Niemeyer told DeichStube. “Due to the rehabilitation process, we don’t expect Victor to play for Werder again this season.”

From Niemeyer’s update, it appears that Boniface’s season is well and truly over. Nevertheless, the Super Eagles striker will continue to work towards regaining full fitness ahead of the summer transfer window as he will likely be on the market.
