Chippa United have confirmed that Stanley Nwabali has left the club following a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, bringing an end to the Nigerian goalkeeper’s spell with the South African side, Footynaija.com reports.
The decision closes a chapter that began in 2022, when the shot-stopper arrived in the Premier Soccer League from Katsina United.
Over four seasons in Port Elizabeth, the Nigeria international established himself as the first choice goalkeeper, featuring regularly across league and cup competitions and earning a reputation as one of the more reliable performers in the Chilli Boys squad during a period marked by managerial turnover and fluctuating results.

The announcement, made on February 5, 2026, stated that the 28-year-old had formally submitted a request to depart, which was later approved after internal discussions.
In a statement, Chippa United said the goalkeeper had “formally submitted a request to depart” and confirmed that “after careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release.”
The statement went on to thank him for “the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club,” before wishing him well “in the next chapter of his career.”
Nwabali was handed the captain’s armband in 2024 following a contract extension. He kept several clean sheets and had some crucial saves, including penalties, that helped decide matches in the PSL.
The exit follows months of uncertainty around his future. Interest in the Super Eagles goalkeeper had been reported from clubs outside South Africa, including sides in North Africa and East Africa, with Simba SC among those monitoring his situation as his contract moved into its final phase.
