Former Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju is buzzing for Ademola Lookman after the forward secured a move from Atalanta to Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window, Footynaija.com reports.

Lookman recently signed with Los Colchoneros on a three and half year deal after the Spanish giants agreed a €40 million package with Atalanta to edge out competition from rival suitors Fenerbahce.

Reacting to the move, Adepoju expressed delight at seeing his compatriot securing a move to one of the biggest clubs in Spain. He also backed Lookman to shine in the red and white stripes of Atletico Madrid.

What Mutiu Adepoju said about Ademola Lookman

“I think it’s a very bold move and I really, really love it,” Adepoju said in an interview with Footy-Africa.

“I think he’s going to a place where he is going to show his quality and everything that Ademola Lookman is about. I’m very sure he is going to have a lot of support from Atletico Madrid.

“They are one of the biggest clubs in Spain and everybody knows the history of Ademola Lookman. He is a very good addition to the team and I think Lookman is going to have a great year at Atletico Madrid and in La Liga.

“I really love the move and I wish him all the best because I know he is a great guy and he deserves to be happy. I am very sure he is going to be happy because he is a great guy and a great footballer too.”

Atletico Madrid are ready to involve Lookman in their playing squad as soon as possible, with the Nigeria international likely to feature in their Copa del Rey quarter-final clash against Real Betis on Thursday.

Lookman was outstanding for the majority of his time at Atalanta. He’ll now be looking to establish himself as a crucial player for Diego Simeone’s side as they continue to chase their sporting objectives for the remainder of the season.
