Nigerian defender, Igoh Ogbu, singled out one Super Eagles teammate for praise while reflecting on his experience at the just-concluded 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Footynaija.com reports.
Ogbu was more of a rotation option for Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle at the tournament in Morocco but the Czech Republic based center-back played his part in impressive fashion whenever he got an opportunity.
He featured three times, starting in two of those appearances and logging a total of 190 minutes as the Super Eagles went on to claim third place after defeating Egypt in the bronze final.
Speaking about his time at the AFCON in a recent interview, Ogbu expressed delight at being part of the Super Eagles despite his bit-part role at the tournament. He also had lofty words of praise for team captain Wilfred Ndidi.
What Igoh Ogbu said

“For me, I think being part of this team is one of the greatest things to have happened to me,” Ogbu said in quotes revealed by Footy-Africa.
“I am just proud to be called up by Nigeria and winning a medal in my first appearance. It is a thing of joy, a thing many people wish for.
“However, what I learnt most from being with them is togetherness – how we come together when something happens, and how the captain, Wilfred Ndidi, handled things.

“He is honestly a leader I admire. The way he does his things and leads us is lovely. Ndidi doesn’t speak much, but he is a leader by action. The way he brings us together is just amazing. It is one of the things I picked up.
“I am really proud of him and proud of the team. Also, the energy at training, the intensity and what the coach brings to training is something you cannot compare anywhere.”

Injuries have limited Ogbu’s to just eight appearances for Slavia Prague this season. He will now be looking to stay fit for the remainder of the season as the reigning Czech 1. Liga champions push to retain their crown.
