Alex Iwobi has credited unity and togetherness for Nigeria’s outstanding run at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, as the Super Eagles prepare to face hosts Morocco in Wednesday’s semi-final in Rabat, footynaija.com reports.
Nigeria have been the tournament’s most consistent and dangerous side so far, winning all five of their matches and scoring a competition-high 14 goals on their way to the last four. Their route to the semi-finals has included victories over Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Mozambique and Algeria, with the quarter-final win over the Algerians further underlining their growing authority in the competition.
The 14 goals already represent Nigeria’s highest-ever tally in a single AFCON campaign, surpassing the 12 scored at the 2000 edition. Beyond the numbers, however, Iwobi believes the defining strength of the current squad lies in its collective spirit.
Speaking ahead of the Morocco game, the Fulham midfielder said the team’s strong sense of brotherhood and shared purpose has been central to their performances.
“For me I feel it is the family environment we have created, the brotherhood within the team. Everyone cares about how the other feels, we are united and all pushing in the same direction to make sure we succeed on pitch,” he said.
Iwobi also pointed to the growth of the squad since the last Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria reached the final with a relatively young group of players who were still finding their way at the highest level.
“From the previous AFCON where we performed very well, we were a bit young but you realize now everyone is entering their prime and performing well both at club and the national team.”
He added that the disappointment of failing to qualify for the World Cup has helped sharpen the team’s focus and ambition in Morocco.
“I feel like everybody has this task ahead that we want to win every game. Obviously we wanted to qualify for the World Cup but it did not happen and we are trying to use that disappointment as a push factor for ourselves and our country.”
Nigeria will face Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, with the winner advancing to Sunday’s final against either Senegal or Egypt, as the Super Eagles continue their push for a fourth continental title.
