Frank Onyeka said Nigeria’s players are determined to keep their attention on their own standards rather than possible opponents after the Super Eagles swept into the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a 4-0 win over Mozambique, footynaija.com reports.

The midfielder, speaking after the match in Fès, described the result as a reward for the team’s work, but warned that tougher tests still lie ahead.

Nigeria’s victory confirmed their place in the last eight, where they will face either Algeria or DR Congo. Onyeka, however, played down any talk of rivalries or revenge.

“I don’t care about the opponent,” he said. “We’re just focusing on ourselves. That’s it.”

The 26-year-old said the mood in the camp was positive after a commanding display that produced four goals and rarely left Mozambique a way back into the game. “We did well. We scored four goals. Everyone is happy,” he added, smiling.

Despite the comfortable scoreline, Onyeka insisted the match was not as easy as it looked and stressed that preparation remains key. “It was a difficult match. We had to train really well to score four goals. Now we need to keep training hard to see how we can score more,” he said.

He also confirmed he is fully fit ahead of the quarter-final and believes the team’s mentality must not change. “Nothing has changed. We know what’s at stake and what we need to do,” Onyeka said.

Nigeria played their final game in Fès, though Onyeka joked he would not miss the city, saying it was “too cold”, as the Super Eagles now turn their focus to the next step in their AFCON campaign.
