Nigeria’s 4–0 win over Mozambique confirmed the growing belief around the Super Eagles heading into the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals, Footynaija.com reports.

It showed a team that fully understands its identity, has clarity in how it wants to play, and knows exactly when to shift gears and take control. As seen against the Mambas, there was no panic, no false urgency and no overreaction to the knockout stage pressure.

The scoreline itself told part of the story. Four goals, a clean sheet, and complete control from the first whistle reflected a team that has grown stronger with every game since matchday one.

What stood out most against Mozambique was how composed Nigeria looked without the ball and how clinical they were when space appeared. Eric Chelle’s team pressed in smart spells, closed off passing lanes through the middle, and pushed Mozambique out wide, where they posed little threat.

Once possession changed hands, Nigeria broke forward with intent and control, with Lookman and Osimhen constantly pulling defenders out of shape and driving the team forward.

The group stage laid the foundation for that performance. Nigeria took maximum points, found goals from different sources, and still managed to rotate and rest key players. The win over Tunisia was as much about managing the game as it was about attacking, while the victory against Uganda highlighted the team’s depth and tactical control, even with major changes to the starting lineup.

There’s also a sense of tactical maturity in this Super Eagles side. Nigeria no longer play like a team waiting on individual brilliance to win games. The midfield now has better balance, the defence looks more disciplined, especially in the knockout round where they finally kept a clean sheet.

Every player seems to understand their role, and that’s helped keep performances steady regardless of who they’re up against.

The quarter final opponent will either be DR Congo or Algeria, and neither offers an easy route. DR Congo still carry the memory of ending Nigeria’s World Cup qualification hopes, while Algeria arrive as one of the tournament’s strongest and most experienced sides.

But if there’s anything this Super Eagles team has shown, it’s that fear isn’t part of their mindset. They’ve handled pressure, adapted to different challenges, and found the right response whether the moment called for control or intensity.
