Nigeria’s Esther Okoronkwo delivered another standout display at the World Sevens Football tournament, scoring the decisive goal as AFC Toronto sealed a lively 3–2 victory over Kansas City Current in Fort Lauderdale, Footynaija.com reports.

The win was Toronto’s first of the competition, with Okoronkwo once again at the heart of their attacking spark. The 28-year-old, who had also scored in the opening-day defeat to Tigres, made it two goals in three matches for the Canadian side.

Kansas City began on the front foot, taking a fifth-minute lead through Alexandra Pfeiffer. But Toronto responded sharply, buoyed by the dynamic partnership between Okoronkwo and Kaylee Hunter.

Okoronkwo set up Hunter for the equaliser in the eighth minute, before the midfielder sent a superb long-range strike into the top corner to put Toronto 2–1 ahead.

Pfeiffer’s second goal levelled the contest again, and Okoronkwo thought she had restored Toronto’s lead shortly after, only for her effort to be ruled out after the referee judged the ball had previously gone out of play.

The Super Falcons striker’s moment eventually arrived in the 29th minute. Hunter burst down the flank and delivered a precise low cross, which Okoronkwo finished calmly to secure the win.

Despite the result, AFC Toronto’s earlier defeat to Tigres and a penalty shootout loss to Flamengo meant they exited the tournament alongside Kansas City. Tigres and Flamengo advanced to the semifinals after topping the group with six points each.

Still, Toronto leave the competition with renewed belief, and Okoronkwo with another headline performance.
