Garba Lawal has called for immediate changes in the Super Eagles after Nigeria’s World Cup dream came to a painful end on Sunday night, Footynaija.com reports.

The former midfielder, who featured at the 1998 and 2002 World Cups, believes the national team needs new energy and younger options as part of its rebuilding process.

Nigeria were knocked out by DR Congo after a tense night in Rabat. The match ended 1-1 after extra time, with the Central Africans edging the shootout 4-3.

Amid the disappointment, Lawal, a respected figure from the Super Eagles era known for his versatility and “Mr Utility” tag, stepped in with his thoughts.

Speaking on Brila FM and quoted by Pulse Sports, the former international said the team needs to refresh its squad. According to him, “Fresh legs should come into the Super Eagles because some of the current players are aging.”

He went further in the same interview, stressing the urgency of his message: “And if you want to bring in the fresh legs, it has to be now.”

His comments add to the growing wave of reactions after the loss. Many fans, still frustrated by the penalty shootout defeat, have also called for a fresh start.

Analysts have highlighted the team’s aging core, and with another failed qualification weighing heavily, there’s louder demand for new faces and stronger competition within the squad.

Lawal is the latest to speak up, joining many others calling for clear direction. Nigeria needs fresh faces, fresh hunger, and a new identity. After a tough night in Rabat, his words hit home; it’s indeed time to rebuild, and it has to start now.
