Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has been appointed goalkeeper coach at Future of Africa, a newly promoted side in the Gauteng Development League (GDL) in South Africa, Footynaija.com reports.
The 39-year-old, who last played for Marumo Gallants, has been without a club since mid-2023 and had previously hinted at preparing for life after active football.

In October, he revealed that he already possessed a CAF D Coaching Licence and was eager to transition into coaching, a dream that has now materialised.
Akpeyi, long admired for his calm presence and consistency, brings vast experience to the young club. His arrival is expected to instil professionalism and discipline in Future of Africa’s development setup.
The former Super Eagles shot-stopper enjoyed a successful club career across Nigeria and South Africa, turning out for Gabros International, Heartland FC, Chippa United, Kaizer Chiefs, and Moroka Swallows. His spell at Kaizer Chiefs was particularly memorable, highlighted by nine clean sheets in the 2019/20 season and the Absa Premiership Player of the Month award for September and October.
On the international stage, Akpeyi represented Nigeria at various levels, featuring in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship and winning bronze at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
