Katsina United have rejected the claims that their supporters attacked Barau FC’s forward, Nana Abraham, during their Nigeria Premier Football League encounter which ended 1-1 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Footynaija.com reports.
The game was packed with drama, as Barau FC stunned the home crowd with a late equaliser in the 69th minute through Orji Kalu. That goal appeared to ignite unrest in the stands, forcing a temporary halt to the contest as match officials tried to restore order.
Moments later, reports began to circulate online alleging that Abraham had suffered a neck injury after being attacked by angry home fans.
Some reports claimed the player’s throat had been slit, showing pictures of him with blood around the neck area, while others said he was caught up in the chaos that followed the goal.
According to The Cable, Katsina United have strongly denied that any supporter assaulted the Barau FC player, insisting that the dramatic claims were false and exaggerated.
“These are lies fabricated about a player’s throat being slashed. This is the said player in these four videos after the match; you can see what happened and how his teammates are shielding him from cameras as fake bandages fall off,” Katsina United shared, per the report.
The club’s response comes amid growing concerns about safety at NPFL match venues, as the league continues its campaign to curb pitch invasions and improve crowd control across stadiums.
The incident has also reignited debate about security standards in domestic football, with several observers urging tighter regulations for host teams.
