Nigeria’s Flamingos are through to the knockout rounds of the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup after thrashing Samoa 4-0 at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Salé on Saturday, Footynaija.com reports.

Queen Joseph scored twice, while Shakirat Moshood and Azeezat Oduntan added one apiece as Nigeria kept their hopes alive after losing their first two matches.

Head coach Bankole Olowookere made crucial changes, including handing goalkeeper Sylvia Echefu her debut, and the move paid off.

Nigeria began brightly and took the lead in the 12th minute when Joseph tapped home from close range. Moshood doubled the lead from the penalty spot after VAR spotted a handball, before Joseph struck again in the 34th minute to make it 3-0.

Moshood missed a second penalty early in the second half, but Oduntan sealed the win with a stunning curling effort in the 67th minute.

Echefu capped her debut with a fine save late on to preserve a clean sheet.

The result confirmed Nigeria’s place in the Round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams. The Flamingos join hosts Morocco in the knockout stage and could face either North Korea or Italy in the next round.
