Sevilla striker and Super Eagles first-timer Akor Adams has downplayed talk of forcing his way into Eric Chelle’s starting lineup ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifying clashes against Lesotho and Benin, insisting his focus is on contributing to the team whenever called upon, Footynaija.com reports.
Adams, who received his first senior call-up following a bright start to the 2025/2026 season in Spain, has scored in consecutive La Liga matches, including a fine strike in Sevilla’s recent 4-1 humbling of champions Barcelona.
However, with attacking options such as Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Tolu Arokodare also in contention for a place in the Super Eagles attack, Adams faces stiff competition for a starting role in the upcoming games.

Despite this, the 25-year-old Sevilla forward remains positive and grounded about his place and potential role in the team.
“I don’t think there is a breaking in. Personally, I just have to give what I can for the team in general,” Adams said, as revealed in a video posted on the Super Eagles’ official X account. “Whoever’s playing, we give support and if you’re called upon by the coach, you do your best.”
Adams also revealed he is eager to settle quickly within the Super Eagles camp and build bonds with his international teammates.
“There are a couple of guys that I’m in touch with. But I’m looking forward to making more relationships and also better friendships,” he added.
The in-form striker will be hoping to make his debut as the Super Eagles look to dispatch Lesotho at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Friday, October 10 before hosting Group C’s current leaders Benin at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo four days later.
