Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have flown out of Lagos to Morocco as they begin their quest for glory at the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, Footynaija.com reports.

The squad left on Wednesday morning and are expected to arrive in Casablanca by 9 a.m. before proceeding to their training camp to complete final preparations.

Coach Bankole Olowookere’s side will fine-tune their readiness with friendly matches against New Zealand on October 10 and Paraguay four days later.

Led by captain Shakirat Moshood, the team head into the competition in blistering form after ten straight wins, scoring 44 goals and conceding none.

Forward Olamide Olanrewaju believes Nigeria can shock the world: “We’re going to surprise people at this tournament. Our goal is to reach the final and bring the gold medal home. Personally, I want to be the top scorer and win the MVP award.”

Goalkeeper Elizabeth Boniface added: “We’ve worked and trained hard for this competition. With God’s help, I believe we can go far. My target is to win the Golden Glove.”

Striker Queen Joseph is equally confident: “We got to the quarterfinals in the last edition, but this time we’re going for the trophy. I want to score 15 goals and help Nigeria lift the cup.”

Defender Azeezat Oduntan summed up the mood: “We all have the same mindset, to bring home the trophy. Everyone is focused and dreaming of one day playing for the Super Falcons.”

Nigeria are drawn in Group D alongside Canada, France, and Samoa, with their first match scheduled for October 19. This year’s edition features a record 24 teams, including five African nations led by hosts Morocco.
