Super Falcons and Al Ittihad full-back Ashleigh Plumptre has opened about living in Saudi Arabia, revealing that the Middle-East nation feels safer than the United Kingdom where she previously plied her trade, Footynaija.com reports.

Plumptre became the first player to move from England’s Women’s Super League to the Saudi Women’s Premier League when she left Leicester City for Al Ittihad back in 2023.

The 27-year-old has since thrived in the Middle-East club, racking up 33 goal contributions (15G, 18A) in 29 appearances for Al Ittihad across all competitions.

Plumptre’s club form has also translated into consistent impressive performances for the Super Falcons of Nigeria. She played a major role back in the summer as Justin Madugu’s ladies coasted to a historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph.

Overall, the former Notts County WFC player appears to be enjoying both her sporting and personal life out there in Saudi Arabia and she gingerly revealed why in a recent interview with The BBC.

“A friend of mine who was out here, we described it as being like a peace bubble,” she explained about how life has been in Saudi Arabia.

“I’ll give an example. I had been to the supermarket and I had all these bags. I live in a compound and I had to take all these bags into the elevator, so I left my car out with the door open, engine on and keys in the car so I could take up my shopping.

“In the UK I would never leave my car out with the keys in. Here I have no problem.”

At the very least, Plumptre’s numbers in the SWPL attest to the fact that she has no problems living and playing in Saudi Arabia. The Super Falcons star has enjoyed a fine start to the 25/26 season with four assists to her name in four SWPL outings with Al Ittihad so far.
