Gift Monday made National Women’s Soccer League history on Sunday, scoring the fastest hat-trick ever from kickoff to send Washington Spirit into the playoffs with a 4-0 demolition of Houston Dash at Audi Field, Footynaija.com reports.
The 23-year-old Nigerian struck three times inside 36 minutes, becoming only the second Spirit player to score a treble. She now leads the team’s scoring charts with eight goals in her debut campaign.

Monday opened in the 18th minute with a precise finish from Trinity Rodman’s assist. Three minutes later, she rose highest to meet Croix Bethune’s cross before completing the record-breaking feat in the 36th minute from another Rodman delivery.

Withdrawn at half-time to a standing ovation, Monday joined Crystal Dunn (2015) as the only Spirit players to have ever scored hat-tricks—both against Houston.
Fellow Super Falcons featured as well, with Deborah Abiodun coming on for Washington and Michelle Alozie introduced for Houston. Substitute Sofia Cantore rounded off the victory in the second half with a stylish back-heel, sealing Washington’s tenth straight unbeaten match.
The win, their eighth clean sheet of the season, keeps Spirit second in the standings (12-4-7), behind Kansas City Current. Houston, missing goalkeeper Jane Campbell, fell to their 12th defeat of the season.
Washington next face Gotham FC in the Concacaf W Champions Cup before hosting San Diego Wave on October 5, but their playoff place is already assured, thanks to Monday’s history-making night.
