Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi made his return to club football action as Besiktas cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Kayserispor in the Turkish Super Lig on Thursday night, Footynaija.com reports.

Ndidi had been sidelined with a thigh injury he sustained in the second half of Nigeria’s 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw with South Africa earlier this month.

As a result of that injury, the 28-year-old midfielder sat out Besiktas’ two games that followed the international break, including a 2-1 win over Istanbul Basaksehir and a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Gotzepe.

Besiktas clearly missed Ndidi’s presence in that humbling defeat at the hands of Gotzepe as the defensive midfield pairing of 21-year-old Demir Tiknaz and 34-year-old Necip Uysal struggled to impose themselves on the game.

The Black Eagles had no such worries at the RHG Enerturk Eneji Stadyumu on Thursday night though, with Ndidi’s return to the starting XI providing a much-needed solidity to Sergen Yalcin’s midfield setup.

With a solid base in the middle of the park, Besiktas went on to dismantle Kayserispor. Experienced Portuguese attacking midfielder Rafa Silva grabbed a hattrick while AC Milan loanee Tammy Abraham also got on the score sheet.

Ndidi featured for 66 minutes, posting impressive defensive stats such as four interceptions, eight recoveries and five clearances. The Super Eagles midfielder also registered a hundred per cent success rate for aerial duels.

The result secured Besiktas’ third win of the season after five games, placing he Black Eagles in ninth place on the Super Lig standings with nine points and a game in hand.
