Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface sets clear target after summer move to Werder Bremen

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has opened up on his desire to help Werder Bremen win as many games as possible this season after securing a loan move to the Waserstadion from fellow Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, Footynaija.com reports.

Boniface’s future at Leverkusen was steeped in uncertainty all summer, having been deemed surplus to requirements at the Bay Arena by the former Bundesliga champions. The talented Nigerian striker appeared to have found a way out when AC Milan came knocking but complications during his medicals saw that move called off.

Eventually, the 24-year-old striker got his move in the last minute as Leverkusen’s Bundesliga rivals, Werder Bremen, swooped in on transfer deadline day to secure his services on a loan deal that will keep him at the Waserstadion for the entire season.

Boniface has since held his first interview as a River Islander. When asked about his set targets to be achieved in Bremen colours, the Super Eagles star was quick to emphasize that his sole desire is to help his new team win as many games as possible.

What Victor Boniface said

“I never set myself any personal goals ahead of the season, such as scoring a certain amount of goals and so on. I want to be successful with the team and I want to win games. I’d love to do that with Werder this season,” he said, as revealed on Werder Bremen’s official website.

“I remember it being loud when I scored against them last season. The atmosphere was actually really good, but I hope that my next goal will be in a Werder kit and that I can celebrate it alongside all of the fans.

“I’m delighted with the support I’m getting from the fans and the whole club, as well as the excitement that the news of my transfer brought about. That’s the biggest thing for a footballer. I want to use this excitement to give them something back on the pitch.”

Courtesy of his prior experience with Bayer Leverkusen, the former Bundesliga champion should have no problems settling into life at his new club. He’ll be looking to hit the ground running when club football resumes after the international break.
