Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Alloy Agu believes qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is not beyond Nigeria ahead of the upcoming battles against Rwanda and South Africa, Footynaija.com reports.
The Super Eagles have opened their training camp in Uyo, the capital city of Akwa Ibom state Nigeria with several key stars already present as they prepare to welcome the Amavubi of Rwanda to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on September 6.
Victory in this fixture is non-negotiable for Eric Chelle and his men in order to preserve Nigeria’s fading hopes of booking their place at the upcoming Mundial. With a six-point gap to bridge and only four games left, the Super Eagles must be pristine in all their remaining games while hoping for results elsewhere to go in their favour.

Despite this, Agu who won 28 caps for Nigeria and was a part of the Super Eagles’ 1994 FIFA World Cup squad believes there’s still a chance for Eric Chelle’s charges as nothing is impossible in football.
What Alloy Agu said
“Impossible does not exist in the lexicon of the round leather game-football”, Agu told Complete Sports.
“We watched the English Premier League match between Liverpool and Arsenal on Sunday. It looked like the game was going to end in a scoreless draw but then, it swung in Liverpool’s favour just minutes to the final whistle.
“So, if you ask me, anything can still happen in the group. It all has to do with everyone-the players, the coaches, the Federation (NFF) and even the various state governments doing what they are supposed to do by coming around the team, supporting them so they can go all the way.
“It all has to start from somewhere, this weekend in Uyo, in the match against Rwanda. A win in the game is important and then we can follow it up with the game away to South Africa.”
After battling Rwanda in Uyo on September 6, they will head to Bloemfontein to take on South Africa at the Toyota Stadium on Tuesday, September 9.
