Fulham’s latest Nigerian signing Samuel Chukwueze is looking forward to teaming up with the Super Eagles squad ahead of the upcoming must-win 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification matches against Rwanda and South Africa, Footynaija.com reports.

Chukwueze was one of three Super Eagles stars who completed deadline day moves to the Premier League with Tolu Arokodare and Christantus Uche also securing transfers to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crystal Palace respectively.

The 26-year-old winger swapped Italy for England on a season-long loan that could potentially become a permanent transfer if Fulham decide to trigger a €25 million buy option clause by the summer of 2026.

Having secured his move on deadline day which also coincides with the start of this season’s first international break, Chukwueze will have to wait till club football resumes before getting started at his new club.

The electric winger won’t be sitting idle though, as the Super Eagles have a huge task on their hands with must-win games against Rwanda and South Africa coming up in a few days and Chukwueze, despite the euphoria of moving to the Premier League, knows what is at stake.

What Samuel Chukwueze said

“For now I am just focusing on the game,” the Super Eagles star told Fulham media during his first interview as a Cottager.

“We need the two games, Rwanda and South Africa. So I think we have to win the two games to bring our World Cup qualification closer. Now I’ve secured this one [transfer to Fulham], so I’m going to focus on getting the job done for Nigeria.”

Chukwueze was one of Nigeria’s standout players during the last international when Nigeria went on to win the Unity Cup. He will be hoping to have the same level of decisive impact for the Super Eagles when they take on Rwanda and South Africa.

Both of his new club teammates Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey have already arrived at the Super Eagles camp in Uyo and the former Villarreal man is expected to join up with them any time from now.

Nigeria will welcome Rwanda to the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday, September 6, before heading to Bloemfontein to take on South Africa at the Toyota Stadium on Tuesday, September 9.
