Wolverhampton Wanderers have agreed a club-record deal with Racing Genk for Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare, in a move set to make him the most expensive player ever sold by the Belgian side, Footynaija.com reports.

The transfer, valued at €27 million, eclipses the €25m fee Sheffield United paid for Sander Berge in 2020.

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Arokodare is scheduled to undergo his medical on Saturday before completing the switch to Molineux, where he is poised to sign a five-year contract.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a standout campaign in Belgium last season, scoring 21 goals in 40 appearances to finish as the league’s top scorer.

The former FC Cologne forward made his Super Eagles debut in March and scored his first international goal in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Russia in June.

Arokodare’s form placed him on the radar of several European clubs including Napoli, AC Milan, Fulham and Burnley, but Wolves moved quickest to secure his signature.

For Genk, Arokodare’s departure continues a trend of high-profile Nigerian exports in Belgium. Paul Onuachu left for Southampton in 2023 for €18m, while Wilfred Ndidi joined Leicester City in 2017 for €17.6m. With this transfer, three Nigerian internationals now rank among Genk’s seven biggest sales.

Wolves have been in the market for attacking reinforcements following last season’s struggles in front of goal. Arokodare’s physical presence and eye for goal are seen as key additions to Gary O’Neil’s squad as the Midlands side look to push higher up the Premier League table.

Barring any late complications in the medical, Arokodare will complete his record-breaking move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
