The Belgian Pro League has long been a proving ground for Nigerian forwards, from the days of Samson Siasia to the modern exploits of Paul Onuachu and Tolu Arokodare, but none has scored more league goals in Belgium than Joseph Akpala.

Here, Footynaija.com counts down the top ten greatest Nigerian goalscorers in Belgium’s top flight.

10. Aliyu Datti – 25 goals

Aliyu Datti may not have reached the lofty numbers of others, but he made his own mark in Belgium during the early 2000s. The Kaduna-born striker featured for several clubs, including KAA Gent, Westerlo, and Standard Liège, registering a total of 25 league goals.

9. Manasseh Ishiaku – 30 goals

Ishiaku left his mark in Belgium with goals for La Louvière and Club Brugge before adding more for MSV Duisburg in Germany. The forward was known for his physical presence and reliability in front of goal.

8. Henry Onyekuru & Samson Siasia – 31 goals each

Onyekuru’s rise came at KAS Eupen, where his goals earned him a big move to Anderlecht. He has since travelled widely across Europe and Asia, with recent stints in Turkey and Greece.

Also, on 31 goals is the legendary Samson Siasia. Before becoming a Super Eagles coach, Siasia carved out a solid playing career in Europe. He struck 31 times in the Belgian top flight while featuring for Lokeren.

7. Victor Ikpeba – 32 goals

Nicknamed “The Prince of Monaco” for his exploits in France, Ikpeba earlier made his name in Belgium with RFC Liège, where his goals paved the way for a celebrated European career.

6. Daniel Amokachi – 35 goals

Amokachi, famously called “The Bull,” announced himself to Europe with Club Brugge. His 35 goals in Belgium included the very first goal in the modern Champions League format, scored in 1992 against CSKA Moscow.

5. Tolu Arokodare – 36 goals

Arokodare has quickly risen to prominence with Genk, adding to his earlier spells in Latvia and Germany. The 24-year-old finished as the Belgian league’s top scorer in 2024–25 with 17 league goals, and his overall tally in Belgium now stands at 36. Linked with a move this summer, Arokodare is one of the hottest Nigerian forwards in Europe right now.

4. Imoh Ezekiel – 42 goals

Ezekiel was a fan favourite at Standard Liège, where he scored freely before moving to Qatar and Spain. He returned to Belgium for a short stint but has since struggled to find consistency abroad.

3. Tosin Dosunmu – 68 goals

Dosunmu was a household name in Belgian football in the mid-2000s. He played for KV Mechelen, Beerschot, and later Germinal Beerschot, finishing as the Belgian Pro League’s top scorer in 2005–06 with 18 goals that season.

2. Paul Onuachu – 79 goals

Standing at 2.01m, Onuachu’s aerial power made him unplayable in Belgium. At Genk, he became the league’s top scorer in 2020–21 with 33 goals in one season, the highest by a Nigerian in Belgium in a single campaign. Now 31, he joined Trabzonspor permanently in July 2025.

1. Joseph Akpala – 90 goals

At the very top sits Joseph Akpala, who fired 90 goals across spells with Charleroi, Club Brugge, and KV Oostende. His consistency in Belgium made him one of the league’s most respected foreign strikers.

Retiring in 2021, the 39-year-old has moved into coaching and even worked with KV Kortrijk in Belgium. Akpala’s record remains unmatched, cementing his place as the most successful Nigerian striker in Belgian Pro League history.
