Nottingham Forest are preparing to cut ties with Emmanuel Dennis, with the Nigerian striker likely to leave before the transfer deadline on 1 September, Footynaija.com reports.

Transfer specialist Ben Jacobs has reported that a contract termination is among the options under discussion, with Dennis firmly out of the club’s long-term plans.

Forest have already reinforced heavily in attack, signing Igor Jesus from Botafogo and Arnaud Kalimuendo-Muinga from Rennes, while also retaining Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi. The depth up front leaves Dennis with little room for opportunities.

The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers, but his spell in the Championship was disappointing.

A red card in just his second league appearance curtailed his involvement, and he ended the campaign with only seven outings across all competitions without registering a goal.

The transfer market is a savage place. Nottingham Forest is trying to terminate Emmanuel Dennis’s contract by mutual consent just so he can join Cremonese. A brutal reminder that in football, the game is also a ruthless business. #GameOn #Transfers #NFFC pic.twitter.com/WP9QQNYEne

Italian sides are said to be tracking his situation closely, with a late move abroad still possible. Dennis is eager to reignite the spark that once made him one of the Premier League’s most exciting attacking outlets.

That promise was most evident during his standout 2021-22 campaign with Watford, when he scored 10 goals and contributed six assists despite the club’s relegation. Nottingham Forest signed him in the hope he could replicate that form, but across three seasons he has managed just six goals in total.
