“It’s very frustrating” – Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare opens up amid future uncertainty
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Super Eagles and Genk striker Tolu Arokodare has admitted his frustration about the persistent rumours and lack of concrete updates surrounding his future in the ongoing summer transfer window, Footynaija.com reports.

Arokodare was widely expected to secure a big move away from the Belgian Pro League, after enjoying an outstanding personal campaign that saw him finish as the division’s top scorer and win the Ebony Shoe award.

However, the big Nigerian striker remains a Genk player despite the club’s willingness to sanction a sale if the right offer arrives. There has been a distinct lack of serious interest from potential suitors. With the summer transfer window set to slam shut in the coming weeks, Arokodare could not hide his frustration at the situation when quizzed about it recently.

“I can’t say anything about it, I don’t know anything about it myself. You hear rumours, I hear rumours, but have you heard something concrete?” Arokodare told Voetbal Krant.

“Everyone wants to play in the Premier League, me too, but in the end, it doesn’t matter much. I just want to be able to play good football and be appreciated, like Genk.

“I don’t know if this season I’m leaving or next season. Anything can happen in football. It’s very frustrating not knowing what’s happening. I try to stay calm, even though my head runs wild, but I have my friends and loved ones who keep me mentally stable.”

Will Tolu Arokodare leave Genk this summer?

Whether Arokodare will eventually secure a move away from Genk this summer remains uncertain but it appears The Smurfs are already planning for life without the Nigeria international.

Genk have played three Pro league games so far and manager Thorstein Fink relegated Arokodare to the bench for all of those games. However, his limited involvement has taken a toll on results so far with Genk yet to record a win this season.

Fink’s men recently fell to a 2-1 defeat against Standard Liege, with Arokodare coming off the bench to score The Smurfs’ only goal of the match. While a move could yet materialize before the end of the transfer window, the 24-year-old striker will certainly return to being a key contributor for Genk if he stays put.
