Nigeria international Tyronne Ebuehi is set to leave Empoli after the club decided not to renew his contract, which expires at the end of June, Footynaija.com reports.

The 29-year-old right-back joined Empoli from Benfica in 2022 on a free transfer and quickly established himself in Serie A, making 26 league appearances and contributing two goals and four assists in his debut campaign.

He featured in 15 matches the following season before a serious knee injury, sustained in a clash with Bologna in March 2024, ruled him out for over a year. Ebuehi only returned to action in early 2025, coming off the bench in a goalless draw against Cagliari in January to mark his first appearance of the 2024–25 season.

Despite playing four games after his return, Ebuehi was unable to help Empoli avoid relegation to Serie B. The club, now preparing for life in Italy’s second tier, is reducing its wage bill, and the Nigerian defender is among those set to depart as per Calcio Lecce. Ebuehi, according to data from capology, earns a gross annual pay of €640,000 (approximately ₦1.16 billion), which Empoli are keen to remove from their budget.

Ebuehi, who has earned 13 caps for Nigeria since making his debut in 2017, is expected to attract interest from clubs across Europe given his top-flight experience in Italy, Portugal, and the Netherlands. He has previously played for ADO Den Haag, FC Twente, and Venezia.

His departure brings to an end a mixed spell in Tuscany, where injuries hampered what began as a promising stay at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.
