Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen forward Nathan Tella has unequivocally backed his former teammate Jeremie Frimpong to thrive in the Premier League, following the Dutch defender’s transfer to Liverpool this summer, Footynaija.com reports.
Frimpong ended his four-and-a-half year association with Bayer Leverkusen to become Liverpool’s first signing of the summer transfer window. During his time at the Bay Arena, Frimpong developed into one of the most capable full-backs in Europe, racking up 30 goals and 38 assists in 190 appearances across all competitions.
He especially stood out during Leverkusen’s record-breaking 2023/2024 season when he produced 14 goals and 10 assists as Die Werkself cruised to an unbeaten Bundesliga and DFB Pokal triumph. With his consistently impressive performances for Leverkusen over the years, it was only a matter of time before one of Europe’s big guns came calling.

Now that Frimpong has finally made that move, Tella, who shared the pitch with the Netherlands international on several occasions in the last couple of seasons, has expressed total confidence that his former teammate will flourish at Anfield.

“Jeremie (Frimpong) has had many outstanding seasons at Leverkusen, and it was no surprise that a team as big as Liverpool were interested in him,” Tella told Flashscore.com.
“He is one of those footballers who deserves the world because he’s done so much for the team (Bayer Leverkusen) to help us, and he’s done so much for himself as a player.
“If you’re good enough, you can play anywhere, and he’s shown it’s not just that he only plays in Germany, he’s played international level, he’s played Champions League, and he’s done well.
“I wouldn’t say there’ll be any surprise for anyone to see how good he is there. Definitely, there should be no surprise to see how well he goes.”
Alongside Frimpong, Tella and Leverkusen saw German gem Florian Wirtz swap the Bay Arena for Anfield last week. Meanwhile, Tella himself is content with life in Germany and the Super Eagles star is looking forward to life under new manager Erik ten Hag.
