Super Eagles head coach Eric Sekou Chelle has lifted the lid on why he recalled veteran forward Ahmed Musa to his latest Nigeria squad, admitting the 31-year-old must prove his worth all over again to earn a place in his new-look team, footynaija.com reports.
Speaking in London ahead of the Four-Nation London Unity Cup, which sees Nigeria take on Ghana, and either Trinidad & Tobago or Jamaica, Chelle explained that while Musa brings experience, he must still fight for his place.
“I think Ahmed is a good player, I think everyone knows that and for me, this is the reality, this is the fact,” the Franco-Malian tactician told NFF TV. “Secondly, he can bring his experience because he has played a lot of big games, so he can bring something to the group.”

However, Chelle made it clear there will be no favours, even for Nigeria’s most capped player.
“So my vision is the same and like the other players, he (Ahmed) is given a chance and he needs to take the chance and show us what he can do,” Chelle said.
“Good if he—you (can) make a great, you (Ahmed) can come on (to the Super Eagles). But for him, I think he has a lot of pressure because he needs to be very good (to make the team),” he added.
Musa, who last featured for Nigeria at the delayed 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in February 2024, holds a legendary status. He scored braces at both the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cups and has earned 108 caps since his debut in 2010.
