Besiktas have entered the race to sign Nigerian international Ola Aina, as the Super Eagles defender nears the end of his current contract with Nottingham Forest, footynaija.com reports.

The Turkish giants have identified Aina as a key target in their summer recruitment drive and are expected to make a formal approach in the coming days, as per Tavkim.

With the 27-year-old’s contract set to expire at the end of June, Besiktas are hoping to tempt him with an attractive offer as they look to reinforce their defensive line ahead of the new season.

Nottingham Forest are reportedly eager to retain the versatile full-back, who joined the club on a free transfer in 2022. The club is said to be in talks to extend his stay at the City Ground, with a new long-term deal on the table. However, interest from multiple clubs could complicate matters.

Aina, who has impressed with his ability to operate on both flanks, has also attracted attention from Premier League powerhouses Liverpool and Manchester City. Both clubs are reportedly monitoring the defender’s situation, aware that he could become a bargain acquisition if he opts to leave Forest as a free agent.

The former Torino defender has featured prominently for Forest this season, contributing two goals and an assist in all competitions. His consistent performances and tactical flexibility have made him a valuable asset not only for his club but also for the Nigerian national team.

Aina’s reputation has steadily grown since his early days at Chelsea’s academy. He made his senior debut for the Blues in 2016 before gaining valuable experience during loan spells at Hull City and Torino.
Aina later secured a permanent move to the Italian side, where he became a regular in Serie A. He also had a brief loan stint with Fulham before eventually signing for Nottingham Forest.

His international experience further adds to his appeal. Aina has earned more than 30 caps for Nigeria and has featured in multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, becoming a mainstay in the national setup.

While Galatasaray have previously been linked with Aina, it is their Istanbul rivals Besiktas who appear to be taking concrete steps toward securing his signature.
