Moses Simon delivered a match-winning performance that sealed the club’s Ligue 1 survival with a commanding 3-0 victory over Montpellier, Footynaija.com reports.
Simon contributed a goal and an assist as Nantes ended the 2024-25 Ligue 1 season with a victory that guaranteed their Ligue 1 status for yet another campaign.
The Super Eagles winger opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 18th minute, displaying composure under pressure in a must-win encounter.

He then turned provider in the second half, setting up Matthis Abline to put the result beyond doubt in the 79th minute, shortly before receiving a standing ovation from the home fans as he was substituted in the 87th.
Francis Coquelin had earlier doubled Nantes’ advantage with a well-taken goal in the 31st minute, as the hosts capitalised on their early momentum to keep relegation fears at bay.
Nantes came into the clash teetering on the brink, having collected just 33 points from 33 games. But Simon’s influence proved decisive, lifting the team to safety in emphatic fashion and capping what has been his most productive season in France.
The 29-year-old Nigerian ends the campaign with eight goals and 10 assists, ranking as Nantes’ second-highest goalscorer and joint-second assist provider in Ligue 1 — behind only Rayan Cherki and Gaëtan Perrin, who each notched 11.

Nantes’ Moses Simon is the first Nigerian player on record to reach double figures in assists in a regular season of any of Europe’s top-five leagues pic.twitter.com/tUMKZ7kJwM
Remarkably, Simon also becomes the first Nigerian on record to hit double figures for assists in a single season in any of Europe’s top-five leagues.
With interest from across Europe mounting, this may have been Simon’s farewell to La Beaujoire — but if so, he leaves on a high.
