The Flying Eagles of Nigeria are gearing up to take on South Africa in the semifinals of the TotalEnergies CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismaila, Egypt, Footynaija.com reports.

Aliyu Zubairu’s Flying Eagles have stood out as one of the most impressive teams in the ongoing tournament courtesy of a defensive astuteness that has seen them concede in just one of their four games so far.

On Thursday, May 15 however, that solid backline will be put to a stern test when they come up against a South Africa side that has scored seven goals in their five previous games leading up to this crunch semifinals clash.

As a result, Footynaija.com takes a look at five Amajitas who can potentially cause problems for the Flying Eagles.

5. Fletcher Smythe-Lowe (GK)

Smythe-Lowe won the COSAFA Championship Golden Glove award just before the start of this tournament. This is a testament to his capabilities between the sticks and he could potentially prove to be a huge stumbling block to the Nigerian attack.

4. Tylon Smith (CB)

The Stellenbosch talent has been quite impressive for South Africa this far with his performances earning him plaudits as one of the best center backs of the tournament. His presence at the heart of Amijita’s defense may prove vital in limiting the impact of the Flying Eagles’ attack.

3. Jody Ahshene (ST)

Although the Cape Town City FC forward hasn’t been amongst the goals as much as many expected coming into the tournament, his undeniable quality has still been on full display. If Ashene is allowed to hit top gear in Thursday’s game, the 20-year-old could spell doom for Nigeria’s defense.

2. Shakeel April (RW)

The 19-year-old winger is one Amajita star who could potentially cause plenty of headaches for the Flying Eagles backline. Shakeel has two assists to his name so far, including a very vital one which led to the goal that sent South Africa into the last four and booked their FIFA U20 World Cup ticket.

1. Thabang Mahlangu (ST)

South Africa’s top scorer with three goals to his name so far, Mahlangu’s game is all about incredible instincts, few touches and deadly efficiency. He notched Amajita’s extra time winner against DR Congo and could once again be the difference in the semi-final.
