Nigeria’s Super Falcons are set to return to action with a double-header of international friendlies against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses – and Ogun State will play host, Footynaija.com reports.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed on Monday that the Gateway State will stage both matches as well as the 2025 WAFU B U17 Boys Championship, scheduled for September.

The Super Falcons have been inactive since November 30, 2024, when they last featured in a friendly against France in Angers. These upcoming games will serve as key preparation ahead of the rescheduled 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, now set to begin on 5 July 2025.

According to the NFF, the deal to host was formalised during a courtesy visit by NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau to Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun in Abeokuta on Sunday.

A statement from the NFF praised the state for its “excellent serenity” and “world-class sporting infrastructure,” adding that the partnership is part of wider efforts to grow Nigeria’s football economy and align with President Bola Tinubu’s New Hope agenda.

The first friendly match will take place on Saturday, 31 May at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, with the return fixture scheduled for Tuesday, 3 June at the newly-renovated MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta.

The announcement strengthens Ogun State’s growing reputation in Nigerian football. The Remo Stars Stadium, built by philanthropist Kunle Soname, has previously hosted matches for the Super Falcons and the U17 girls, Flamingos.

Joining Gusau on the visit were key NFF officials including 2nd Vice President and NPFL Chairman Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, alongside Executive Committee members Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, Silas Agara, and Aisha Falode.
