After a narrow 1–0 win over Tunisia, the Flying Eagles will next face Morocco in their second Group B match at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Footynaija.com understands.

Another win could secure a spot in the quarter-finals, but it will not come easy. The Junior Atlas Lions made a comeback after going one goal down against Kenya; hence, Nigeria will need some players to step up even more than they did in the opener.

Here are five Flying Eagles who must shine against the North Africans:

5. Ifeanyi Ebenezer Harcourt

The Flying Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper was solid in the opener, making an important save late in the game to keep the clean sheet. Against Morocco’s more aggressive frontline, which scored 3 against Kenya, Harcourt will likely face more tests. His calm presence and quick reflexes could be the difference again.

4. Clinton Jephta

The Enyimba midfielder had a quiet but disciplined performance against Tunisia. Morocco will offer more attacking threat through the middle, so Jephta must win more duels, press higher, and push the ball forward when Nigeria break. His quick passing could open space behind Morocco’s defence.

3. Daniel Bameyi

Captain Bameyi led the backline well in the opening match, and his leadership will again be needed. Morocco are fast on the counter, so Bameyi’s reading of the game and aerial strength will be tested.

He must be more cautious in defence against Morocco’s fierce attack to avoid another booking (he was booked for a foul against Tunisia) or worse, a red card that could cost Nigeria the match.

2. Auwal Ibrahim

Scorer of the winning goal against Tunisia, Ibrahim showed great movement and calmness in front of goal. His confidence will be high, and Nigeria will need his attacking instincts again. Morocco defend deep but leave space between the lines that Ibrahim could exploit with the right support.

1. Divine Oliseh

Oliseh was one of Nigeria’s busiest players in the first match. He chased everything, kept the ball well under pressure, and tried to link midfield with attack. He will be important in helping Nigeria move up the pitch and break Morocco’s pressing game. If he stays sharp, he could be standout again.

The Flying Eagles know that Morocco will pose a tougher challenge. But with players like these stepping up, Nigeria’s dream of qualifying for the knockout stage, and reaching the U-20 World Cup, remains very much alive.
