Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi has urged his Fulham teammates to keep their heads high and remain focused on European qualification despite falling to a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, Footynaija.com reports.
The Super Eagles star, making his 360th club appearance, was one of Fulham’s standout performers in the frustrating encounter.
Antoine Semenyo’s goal inside the opening minute gave the Cherries the lead, and despite Fulham dominating possession, especially after the break, they couldn’t find a way past a defiant Bournemouth defence.
Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal for Bournemouth was in inspired form, making seven crucial saves to help end their six-game winless run.
The victory saw Bournemouth leapfrog Fulham into eighth place in the Premier League table, with both sides locked on 48 points from 32 matches. They now sit six points adrift of seventh-placed Aston Villa as the race for a European spot intensifies.
After the match, Iwobi posted a short but powerful message on Instagram: “Head up and go again,” signalling his determination to help the team bounce back.
The Nigerian international delivered an industrious display, creating one big chance, completing eight final-third passes, and contributing defensively with two ground duels won, one aerial duel, and a tackle.
Iwobi has played every Premier League game for Fulham this season, starting 30 of the 32 matches and scoring eight goals. He last found the net in the 3-2 win over Liverpool on April 6 and opened his season account against Leicester on August 24.
Since joining Fulham from Everton in September 2023, Iwobi has continued to establish himself as a key figure, adding to an already impressive Premier League career that includes 285 appearances, 30 goals, and 34 assists.
Fulham next face a tough London derby at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea on April 20, while Bournemouth visit Crystal Palace in their bid to stay in the European mix.
