Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle says Nigeria’s upcoming participation in the 2025 Unity Cup in London offers a timely chance to test new players and fine-tune tactics ahead of a crucial run of World Cup qualifiers, Footynaija.com reports.
The four-nation tournament — featuring Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago— will take place at Brentford FC’s Gtech Community Stadium at the end of May, with the venue set to host all matches.

Nigeria will face long-standing rivals Ghana on Wednesday, 28 May, before taking on either Jamaica or Trinidad & Tobago on Saturday, 31 May. Both fixtures offer Chelle an ideal platform to experiment and assess squad depth.
“We’re looking forward to taking part in the Unity Cup as it will give us the chance to try out a few new players in different roles, helping us to strengthen our squad before the matches in September and October,” said Chelle in a statement released by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Chelle, appointed in January 2025, has overseen two World Cup qualifying matches so far — a 2-0 away win over Rwanda and a frustrating 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe in Uyo. The results have left fans cautiously optimistic but eager for signs of tactical improvement.
Vice-captain William Troost-Ekong welcomed the Unity Cup, stressing its role in fostering team cohesion and preparation.
“This is a great tournament for us to reunite and continue strategizing for the upcoming World Cup qualifying games,” said the experienced defender.
With qualification for the 2026 World Cup — set to be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico — firmly in focus, Chelle will hope the Unity Cup provides the competitive edge his team needs heading into a decisive phase.
