Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu may be forced to sit out Southampton’s Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur after missing out on Friday’s training session due to a potential ankle injury, Footynaija.com reports.
The Saints, with their impending return to the EFL Championship seemingly already sealed, will travel to North London to take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, April 6 in the 31st round of fixtures for this season.
Unfortunately, it looks like they will have to make that trip without their towering center forward Onuachu. The Nigerian forward’s setback could not have come at a worse time as he seemed to have rediscovered his scoring touch in recent weeks.
Onuachu was on target in his last appearance for the Saints during their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at the St. Mary’s. The goal against Palace was his second consecutive strike with the 30-year-old striker also hitting the target in a defeat to Wolves on Matchday 29.

Onuachu’s situation was confirmed by Southampton head coach Ivan Juric during a pre-match conference on Friday. Juric revealed that the striker had missed the day’s training session after experiencing trouble with ankle.
“Paul has a problem with his ankle,” said the Croatian manager as per quotes on Southampton’s official website.
“Today he didn’t train, but we will see tomorrow.”
With Onuachu’s availability for Sunday’s game still uncertain, the Nigeria international may have to undergo a late fitness assessment to ascertain whether or not he will be fit enough to contribute in any form.
Depending on results elsewhere, a defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will confirm the Saints’ return to the second tier of English football.
