Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo has provided an update on Ola Aina’s injury after the Nigerian defender was forced off in the first half of Forest’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United at the City Ground on Tuesday, Footynaija.com reports.

Anthony Elanga’s early strike against his former club sealed a landmark win for Forest, who completed their first league double over United since the 1991-92 season.

However, the victory was overshadowed by Aina’s injury setback, with the fullback limping off in the 39th minute.

Speaking after the match, Nuno admitted concern over Aina’s condition but confirmed the club would await scan results before determining the severity of the injury.

“We will have to assess. It’s always a concern when a player injures himself, so we are going to scan and see how it is,” the Forest boss said. “We’re not quite sure. I think only the scan will say exactly.”

Aina, who has been a key figure for Forest this season, has featured in all 30 of their Premier League games, scoring twice and providing one assist. His absence would be a significant blow as the club pushes for a European spot.

Nuno also provided an update on top scorer Chris Wood, who remains sidelined following an injury sustained during the international break. Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi led the attack for Forest against United in the absence of Wood.

“Like I said before, it’s going to be day by day. He’s getting better. Today the feedback is that he’s better; tomorrow, hopefully, he’ll be better, but he is going to be assessed daily,” Nuno added.

Forest, currently fighting for a potential Champions League berth, will be hoping for positive news on Aina, with several key fixtures on the horizon.
