Turkish side Beşiktaş are moving closer to signing Nigerian teenager Donald Godwin after opening discussions with his representatives following an impressive trial in Istanbul, Footynaija reports.
The 17-year-old Atlantic Business FC striker travelled to Turkey for trials alongside a small group of players but quickly separated himself with his performances. Coaches were said to be particularly impressed by his sharp instincts in front of goal and intelligent movement inside the penalty area.
Negotiations are now progressing, and while the deal is not yet complete, there is growing confidence that an agreement could be reached soon. If finalised, Godwin is expected to begin his journey in Europe within the club’s development system, a step designed to help young players adjust to a new football culture before pushing for senior opportunities.
There is added intrigue around the move because of the presence of Wilfred Ndidi, who has become an important figure at Beşiktaş since his arrival in 2025. Although there is no indication he influenced the transfer, his experience could prove valuable in helping the teenager settle both on and off the pitch.
Godwin has built his reputation through eye-catching displays in local competitions, where he has emerged as one of Nigeria’s most exciting young forwards. His breakthrough moment came earlier this year when he scored six goals in a single match which drew the attention from scouts within and outside the country.
A classic centre-forward, he relies on positioning, timing and composure rather than flair. Comfortable attacking crosses and reacting quickly to loose balls, he has shown a consistent knack for scoring from close range. His physical presence, combined with a calm approach in front of goal, has marked him out as a player with significant potential.
A move to Beşiktaş would represent a major step in his career and could offer the platform needed to develop into a future star.
