Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon are on the brink of joining one of the most exclusive groups in Nigerian football history, with both players closing in on 100 appearances for the Super Eagles, Footynaija reports.
The pair are expected to feature when the Super Eagles face Jordan in Turkey, offering another opportunity to edge closer to the landmark. Their progress has been steady and earned over time, built on consistency, adaptability and long-term importance to the national team.
Iwobi is set to win his 98th cap, having first appeared for Nigeria in October 2015 against DR Congo. Over the past decade, he has developed into a dependable midfield presence, valued for his ability to connect defence with attack and maintain composure in tight spaces. Across different managers and tactical systems, he has remained a constant.
Simon, meanwhile, is just one appearance behind on 97 caps. He made his debut in March 2015 against Uganda and has since established himself as one of Nigeria’s most reliable wide players. His pace, work rate and delivery have made him a regular attacking outlet, and his goal in the recent 2-1 win over Iran reminded many of his continued influence.
If both players reach the century mark, they will join a select group of only three Super Eagles greats to have achieved the feat. Ahmed Musa currently holds the record with 111 appearances, having retired from international football in December 2025. Former captain Joseph Yobo was the first Nigerian to reach 100 caps, achieving the milestone at the 2014 World Cup, while goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama also passed the mark, finishing with 101 caps.
