Former head coach of Nigeria’s U20 men’s national team, Paul Aigbogun, is confident that Super Eagles forward Peter Olayinka will deliver the goods after joining Cyprus based club APOEL Nicosia earlier this week, Footynaija.com reports.

Recall that Olayinka abruptly ended a two-year association with Red Star Belgrade back in October, with the Serbian outfit agreeing to terminate his contract after he registered his desire to seek opportunities elsewhere.

The 30-year-old winger remained without a club for just over three months before APOEL came calling and he will now be looking to relaunch his career with the 29-time Cypriot First Division champions.

Reacting to the move, Aigbogun expressed delight with Olayinka’s move and backed the former Slavia Prague forward to thrive in a new environment that “fits his style.”

“When I got the news I was happy for two reasons,” he told Footy-Africa in a recent interview.

“One is the fact that Peter (Olayinka) is finally going to be back on the pitch and secondly, he is going to a league that will suit his style as he eases himself back into football.

“He is a very experienced striker and will bring value to the club as soon as he gets back to full fitness. I am sure he will bang in the goals for APOEL.

“I hope he hits the ground running and pays back the trust in him. He has the experience to cope with the demands in Cyprus.”

APOEL Nicosia sit sixth in the Cypriot First Division with 36 points from 21 matches, trailing league leaders Omonia Nicosia by 15 points.

They also recently booked a place in the semi-finals of the Cyprus Cup after narrowly edging a five-goal thriller against Enosis Paralimni on Wednesday.
