Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has strongly criticised Tottenham Hotspur following their heavy 4-1 defeat to Arsenal in the North London derby on Sunday, Footynaija reports.

Tottenham’s difficult Premier League season continued as they slipped further down the table after another disappointing performance at home.

Spurs have now managed only one league victory in their last ten matches, a run stretching back to December when they defeated Crystal Palace. Since then, they have recorded five defeats and five draws, leaving them dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Many supporters hoped new manager Igor Tudor could steady the team in such an important fixture, but Arsenal dominated large parts of the contest.

Two goals each from Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyökeres ensured a convincing victory for Mikel Arteta’s side and pushed Tottenham down to 16th place.

Reacting on the Obi One Podcast, Mikel praised Arsenal’s response following their midweek draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers but offered a harsh assessment of Tottenham’s overall display.

“Credit to Arsenal because they did everything right, and it’s great to see Eze back on the scoresheet, starting and scoring goals. He was fantastic.

“Arsenal had to win, but they played against a poor Tottenham side. Spurs were awful, terrible yesterday,”
the 38-year-old said.

Mikel also criticised Tottenham’s defensive organisation and decision-making throughout the match.

“Defensively, they were all over the gaff, all over the place. Dragusin was terrible.

“The mistakes they made on and off the ball, everything was awful to watch, and it’s good to see that the manager has come out to question the mentality of the team.

“He has to eradicate the bad attitude within the club. Tudor has got a mountain to climb with that Spurs team,”
Mikel concluded.

The result leaves Tottenham only four points above 18th-placed West Ham United, increasing pressure on the squad as they battle to avoid being pulled deeper into the relegation fight.
