On Thursday night at Villa Park, Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba found himself in a moment that changed both a match and his standing at Aston Villa, Footynaija.com reports.

Introduced late in the UEFA Europa League clash against Red Bull Salzburg, the 19-year-old scored the winning goal in the 87th minute, sealing a 3-2 comeback and confirming Villa’s place in the knockout round.

The match had not started well for the home side. Salzburg took control early, scored twice through Karim Konate and Moussa Yeo, and left Aston Villa chasing the game. After the break, the response came through Morgan Rogers, who pulled one back, before Tyrone Mings levelled the score with a header.

As the match was about to end in a draw, Jimoh Aloba found himself inside the penalty area to meet a low cross from Kadan Young, and guided his finish into the net.

It was his first senior goal for Aston Villa and his first appearance in European competition. With qualification on the line and little room for error, Unai Emery turned to a teenager who had spent much of the season developing away from the spotlight.

Who is Jimoh-Aloba?

Jimoh Aloba was born on 2 October 2006 in Birmingham and is of Nigerian descent, which makes him eligible to represent the Super Eagles at senior international level.

He stands at around 185 centimetres and plays mainly as an attacking midfielder, although he has also been used in central roles. His game is built around ball control, awareness in tight spaces, and an ability to stay calm when play becomes crowded.

Before joining Aston Villa, he spent his early years at West Bromwich Albion, where he became one of the more technically-sound players in his age group. Villa signed him in August 2023 and moved to integrate him into their youth structure. He signed his first professional contract soon after and progressed through the Under 18 and Under 21 teams.

The 2024-25 season was a turning point for the teenager. Jimoh Aloba played a part in Aston Villa’s FA Youth Cup win, scoring in the final and proving the club’s belief in his readiness for senior football.

His first team debut was in the Carabao Cup in September 2024, followed by his Premier League debut in December 2025 against Arsenal.

At international level, he has represented England across multiple youth categories, including Under 16, Under 17, Under 18 and Under 20. His Nigerian heritage remains open, particularly as his club involvement increases and his role becomes more obvious.
