Nigeria’s World Cup playoff journey continues to draw strong opinions across the continent, and the latest assessment has come from former Sierra Leone midfielder Michael Lahoud, Footynaija.com reports.
The Super Eagles reached the continental play-off final following a tense victory over Gabon that required extra time to settle the tie. Nigeria advanced after a 4-1 win in extra time, a result that revealed both the team’s offensive potential and its vulnerability in regular time.
In addition to on pitch concerns, the squad have also had to manage off pitch disruption, including disagreements over bonuses and a temporary training walkout before the semi final. The road to the playoff and recent issues within the team explains the ongoing commentaries about the team.

According to the report by BSN Sports, Lahoud stressed that his criticism is grounded in what he has seen from Nigeria in competitive matches.
“This team needs unity, but they have often played like individuals,” he said.
“They need serious leadership, and right now, the only true leader is Victor Osimhen,” he added.
The former Sierra Leone international continued by emphasising that Nigeria require more than reputation if they want to reach the World Cup.
“Nigeria needs action on the pitch,” he said.
“Osimhen has carried the team with his performances, and if the rest of the squad matches his level, Nigeria will reach the World Cup.”
“Africa does not want Nigeria to qualify, so it is up to the players to step up. If Osimhen performs like he did against Benin and the team rises to the challenge, Nigeria will secure a place at the World Cup,” he concluded.
